A talented foursome from COMET’s ISS Life Sciences Program earned a pair of prestigious awards in the past six months from KSC and JSC.
Elizabeth Carter, Trisha Joseph, Kamber Scott, and Vanessa Tompkins were honored with the JSC Director’s Innovation Group Achievement Award at the 2023 JSC Honor Awards Ceremony on June 26, 2024, and NASA’s Space-flight Awareness (SFA) Team Award on Sept. 19, 2024.
As members of the ISS Science Laboratory Support Team, the quartet were honored by JSC for exceptional flexibility in accommodating a wide spectrum of ISS “late load” research, from pre-launch through return of samples, for all ISS crew and cargo missions.
Three months later, they were honored with the SFA Team Award in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the success of the ISS Life Sciences Program.
Elizabeth (ISS Life Sciences Off Line Lab Support Scientist): “I'm incredibly thankful for the collective effort of our team, which plays a vital role in ensuring the success of countless scientific payloads from teams worldwide. The joy I observe on the scientists' faces when a rocket launches makes all the challenges we face together truly rewarding.”
Vanessa (ISS Life Sciences Off Line Lab Support Scientist): “I am grateful I was able to contribute to my team’s success. The Life Sciences team is relatively small compared to other groups out here at KSC. It’s great to be able to shed light on the work we are doing to support the biological science side of space flight.”
Trisha (Physical Scientist): “I’m grateful for the honor and recognition that this award brings! The ISS Life Sciences group carries a big responsibility in the flight payload world, and as missions to the ISS have increased exponentially, our team has stepped up to the challenge. We could not accomplish this without the support of our Administration and Contractors. Thank you to my manager, Macedonia Andrews, for the nomination.”
